Joe's newest book, to be published by Random House/Harmony Books April 29, 2008, follows three novels, a non-fiction inspirational book, seven produced theatrical screenplays, and several childrens' books.

For decades, Joe has been trying to lure you into the heart and soul of a dog. Now, with The Soul of a Horse, he wants to lure you into the heart and soul of a horse. After reading the book, Shaye Areheart, publisher of the Harmony Books imprint at Random House, the nation's largest publisher, said, "I will never look at horses the same way again. It's a wonderfully personal and emotional book. We're very excited to have the worldwide rights."

Monty Roberts, author of the New York Times Bestseller The Man Who Listens to Horses, and world renowned clinician, said, "Imagine how inadequate it makes me feel to realize how recently Joe came into horses. The man is a natural when it comes to understanding how animals tick and a genius at telling us their story. The Soul of a Horse is a must read for those who love animals of any specie."

The Soul of a Horse is slated for April 29, 2008.

Joe has previously written three novels from his own screenplays and the non-fiction inspirational Benji and Me, plus numerous children's books, and screenplays for seven produced theatrical motion pictures. He is the creator of the canine superstar Benji, has taught at Southern Methodist University, has chaired many writing seminars, and is currently hard at work on two nonfiction books Dare to Dream and Dog Knows Best!

Not staisfied to have the world's most huggable hero, with Benji, and to help with dog adoption all over the world, Joe and his wife Kathleen have leaped into the horse world with both feet, and found it needing an extreme makeover. Horses in the care of man have a life expectancy that is, on average, half that of their wild-living counterparts. Joe and Kathleen discovered that most folks have no idea that they are shortening their horses' lives, degrading their health, and limiting their happiness by the way they relate to them, and by the way they keep and care for them. The Naked Horse is a unique journey of discovery, engagingly and emotionally revealed through three voices:

  • A herd of wild mustangs, a fable, if you will, first encountered on the contemporary plains of Nevada, tracked backwards to the shores of sixteenth century Spain, then forward again through time to the present.

  • The author's favorite horse, Cash, speaking his clever mind about the realities of the equine-human relationship, and how lack of human knowledge and understanding has led to not only poor, but totally incorrect care for horses in the charge of humans.

  • The chronicles of the author and his wife entering the horse world as neophytes, without a clue, searching for logic and sense in the traditional teachings and recommendations relating to horse care and training.

And through it all, there grows the realization that the lessons learned from the horse are lessons for life among humans as well. For more on this visit TheNakedHorseBook.com

Everybody has a dream, and hope is on the way. Joe is back at work putting the finishing touches on Dare to Dream, a book that proves that dreams can, in fact, come true. Over and over again. Dare to Dream is a road map, a blueprint, and an inspiration. It outlines the choices that can make dreams come true and proves them with real life example in a compelling, emotionally involving story that could be mistaken for a work of fiction. But it isn't.

Joe Camp is from the wrong place, with the wrong education, the wrong philosophy, and the wrong product. He was rejected by every studio in Hollywood, more than once, and without any help from those studios, he turned a cute, lovable, floppy-eared notion into a worldwide phenomenon that is known and loved all around the globe. The book empowers and inspires the reader to reach beyond a misguided perception of his or her own limitations, and it details the choices that will create success. It's an elixir for the human spirit, a book that proves that the unknown, the uncelebrated can still mount a white horse, charge off into the distance and accomplish things worthwhile, against the odds, and leave the world a better place for the effort. Then, in his sixties, he makes a directional turn and attacks a brand new dream: to make life better for horses all over the world.Joe's next "grownup" book is Dog Knows Best which he is currently writing. Have you ever told a little white lie? Or maybe a bigger one that wasn't even white? Have you ever stomped through the front door all grumpy and barking at you kids, or your spouse? Have you ever questioned the value of being persistent, not giving up. Or being loyal. Have you ever had to work at making someone else happy? Have you ever shaded the truth in a business deal? Or pondered the meaning of the word selfish ? Your dog hasn't. None of the above. And we can all learn from that. And that's what this book is about.

Joe has just finished the first four Benji Promise Books, for children three to seven years of age, each based on a positive value like truth, love, hope, and trust. And he has now finished The Benji Method Dog Training Book

"This is a totally non-regulation training book, " says Camp. "It's fun, and captures the spirit of how we approach movie training with Benji. Something you can enjoy with your dog."

Other books by Joe include the novels For the Love of Benji (Bantam), Oh Heavenly Dog (Scholastic), Benji Off the Leash (Harper Collins), and several childrens' books. Then there is the novel Old Spies, which Joe has been writing, off and on, for years. More to come on that.
